Haiti earthquake: HF frequencies have returned to normal use
From 1800UTC 22 January the HF frequencies used to respond to the immediate needs of the Haiti Earthquake, 14.300MHz, 14.265MHz , 7.045MHz, 7.065MHz, 7.265MHz, 3.720MHz, 3.977MHz will return to normal use
P49Y Holds ARRL SSB Lead; VY2ZM Tops US, Canada
As more scores trickle in for the 2009 ARRL DX SSB Contest, there could be a series of double wins that emerge from this year's contest. In the single operator ranks, P49Y (AE6Y) remains on top, with many expecting P40A (KK9A) to be the top low power entry again this year. Meanwhile in the multi-op ranks, it looks like W3LPL has won the Multi-Multi crown in both ARRL CW and SSB, and that WE3C will do the same in Multi-Two this year.

Advantage Asia, Europe In 2009 Russian DX
While propagation conditions continue to be less than stellar, the 2009 Russian DX Contest seems likely to be an active one, in part because it's the last qualifying round for most amateurs in the chase for slots in next year's World Radiosport Team Championships. The edge in most categories goes to ops in Europe and Asia. Both overall single op champs were on Cyprus last year, as RW3QC and UA2FZ took home the high and low power crowns.

State QSO Party Focus Swings To Lone Star State
The number to remember is 254 - as in 254 counties in the state of Texas, as the 2009 Texas QSO Party hits the airwaves. Several dozen mobiles will make your job easier in this year's contest, as organizers say they have an outside chance of getting every Texas county on the air. It's now been 26 years since the late K4OJ made what's believed to be the only sweep in TXQP history.
