Sending Amateur Radio signals to the Moon and back has never been easy. After roundtrip journeys of nearly half a million miles, even the most powerful signals generated by hams are exquisitely weak on arrival. Because of the equipment and expertise necessary for successful "moonbounce" operating, this facet of Amateur Radio has been traditionally confined to a small audience. But for three days in April even hams with very modest stations will have the opportunity to experience the thrill of moonbounce, thanks to the giant radio telescope at the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico.

URE Accuses Team DA0HQ of IARU "Log Padding"
The controversy over the 2009 IARU HQ victory of Team DA0HQ deepened in recent days, as the Spanish Radio Union URE publicly accused German hams of "serious irregularities", citing numerous examples of one ham using multiple calls to repeatedly work DA0HQ on all bands. Advantage Asia, Europe In 2009 Russian DX
While propagation conditions continue to be less than stellar, the 2009 Russian DX Contest seems likely to be an active one, in part because it's the last qualifying round for most amateurs in the chase for slots in next year's World Radiosport Team Championships. The edge in most categories goes to ops in Europe and Asia. Both overall single op champs were on Cyprus last year, as RW3QC and UA2FZ took home the high and low power crowns.
