This weekend brings one more tuneup for contesters in the US and Canada before CQ WW CW, as the ARRL November Sweepstakes SSB test grabs the bands in North America. Dan Handa W7WA is the defending champ in this very popular 30 hour contest, which is also a test of an operator's ability to avoid log mistakes, one reason Handa emerged a winner last year.

Florida Ops Open Holes In ARRL 10 Meter Test
The 2008 ARRL 10 Meter Contest won't go down in the history books as the best ever in terms of propagation, but the band was filled with signals at times from openings that surprised more than a few operators. Dan Street K1TO led the charge of the Florida Contest Group, which supplied US and Canadian hams with an almost endless supply of Sunshine State QSO's.

PVRC Lays Out Initial Sked For Contest Webinars
Taking the lead on internet presentations, the Potomac Valley Radio Club has set out an initial schedule for contest related webinars in June, July and August of this year. Club leaders say it's just the start of a series of web conferences geared towards contesting topics that will be open to anyone around the world.

Top Multi-Single Score in 2008 "Disappears" From Results
The final numbers from the 2008 CQ WW CW contest do not include any mention of the top world claimed score in the Multi-Single category, as a radio-sport.net review of the latest results from CQ Magazine show that Team 4L0A's score simply "disappeared" from the final 2008 CQ WW CW results. Also missing, several top 40 meter scores that were evidently "privately" DQ'd.

Russian DX Test Highlights Busy Contest Weekend
It's back to normal in 2010 for the Russian DX Contest, after three years in which it was a major qualifying contest for this year's World Radiosport Team Championships to be held outside Moscow. Not only can you chase Russian ops this weekend, but there are also three state QSO Parties in the US to choose from in Oklahoma, Virginia and North Dakota.

Salmon Run Headlines Double State QSO Party Weekend
The salmon are still running for real on the Columbia River in the Pacific Northwest and this weekend you can watch the ham radio contest version of that feat of nature, as the 2008 Salmon Run will put the state QSO Party spotlight on Washington State's 39 counties. Also on tap is the Colorado QSO Party, all part of a state QSO party run in coming weeks.
